Two cockroaches cause most problems in Sri Lanka. The large American cockroach comes up from drains and sewers; the small German cockroach lives inside kitchens, behind fridges, in motor housings and inside cupboard hinges. They need different treatments, which is why the inspection comes first.
German cockroaches are controlled with gel bait placed in small dots inside harbourages — hinges, drawer runners, appliance housings. They eat the bait and carry it back to the aggregation, which reaches insects that sprays never touch. American cockroaches are controlled at the source: drain treatments, perimeter spraying and sealing of entry points.
Spraying a visible cockroach with a supermarket aerosol kills one insect and scatters the rest deeper into the building. If you are seeing small cockroaches during the day, the harbourage is crowded and the infestation is established — that is the point to call.
